Miller Home Renovations is based in Vancouver, WA, but has been serving the Salem area and other parts of Oregon since Ken Miller started the business 17 years ago.
The bathroom renovation company offers quick installs and conversions of showers and bathtubs, and also offers walk-in shower styles that can help make a home more accessible to an aging owner. “Maybe they’re getting older and trying to stay in their home longer – we can help with that,” Miller said. Their products are acrylic-based, but look like tile or stone, so they’re easier to maintain.
Miller has been in the construction and renovation business his entire life. “I started beating nails for a living when I was 18,” he said. After moving up to the corporate world and working as a salesman for bigger companies, he decided he wanted to start his own business.
“I worked for a couple of large national companies and sometimes you feel lost in the corporate world. I wanted to focus on the things that are important to me, like integrity and customer service.” he said. “I wanted to build something of my own.”
Keeping his business family-owned and -operated is important to Miller. He says this model allows him to treat his employees well and run a business that’s accountable to customers.
“When we say family-owned and -operated, that’s the truth,” he said. His son works for the company, and 14 of his 36 employees share relatives at the company. There are other fathers who have brought their sons on to work with them, and a husband, wife, and daughter who work in different support roles.
Miller also invests in the greater community. Miller Home Renovations recently became a sponsor for a Vancouver Little League team. And for the past two years, the company has fundraised for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2025, they donated $12,500 of their October sales to the cause, and this year, they were a sponsor for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at the University of Portland.
“The company is doing well, and I wanted to find something we can give back to,” he said.
When he looks toward the future, Miller, 67, sees retirement on the horizon. But the company’s 20th anniversary is three years away, and he wants to stay at least until then to witness that milestone. For now, he’s grateful to remain at the helm of the company he built.
“17 years ago when I started, I never thought I’d be where I am, with 36 employees,” Miller said. “It couldn’t have happened without the support of many different people.”
