It’s December! That means everyone in Salem is gearing up for a much-deserved holiday celebration. Those who want to make the most of the holidays and support their local community will find few better spots to shop than East and West Salem ACE Hardware.

This year, as with every year, the store arranged an array of holiday celebrations that will brighten your spirits, support the less fortunate, and even cover your gift shopping. We spoke to store President Jeremy Mackay about all the goodies lined up for the month of December.

Lions Selling Trees

Throughout the holiday season, Salem’s Lions will be selling Christmas trees on the south side of the parking lot. Proceeds will go to support next season’s Concert in the Park, a weeklong musical event for the whole family.

“If you want to get a Christmas tree, it’s great to do so while supporting the Lions here in West Salem,” says Mackay.

Of course, ACE Hardware has any other accessories you might need outside the tree. In the store, they sell an expansive collection of artificial trees, lights, inflatables, and more. They’re also the best place to find all the tools and gadgets for the handy people on your holiday shopping list. “We're going to have amazing sales this season on power tools, barbecues, and anything people need for decorating their homes,” explains Mackay.

The Lions will be selling trees from Black Friday until they run out of stock.

Support the Salem Dream Center

Like many other businesses throughout the area, ACE Hardware will display a wood palette tree replete with ornaments that display the wishes of a child in need. Mackay calls it “a really easy way for the community to be able to buy presents for some of the local kids.”

Interested? You have until December 14 to sponsor a child and purchase their gifts. Those who find themselves with a packed holiday schedule can visit the Salem Dream Center website and donate directly.

Round Up for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

OHSU’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is widely considered to be one of the best pediatric hospitals in the country. Providing state-of-the-art care to those in need isn’t cheap, however. That’s why ACE Hardware will be running a “Round-Up” campaign with the Miracle Network to benefit the esteemed institution.

Shoppers will have the opportunity to round up their ACE Hardware purchases to the nearest dollar. Proceeds will benefit the hospital and the research conducted there at Doernbecherl.

Ring the Bell for the Salvation Army

Not content to limit outreach to the store itself, Mackay and members of his family will also do some Salvation Army bell ringing at the Salem location of Roth’s Fresh Market. Be sure to pack a few quarters (or maybe even some folding money) for Mackay and all the other locals who brave the wind, rain, and cold to ensure the needy receive care.

“We are responsible for giving back to our communities,” says Mackay of the area’s small businesses. “They're so generous with us, with the support they give us. When it comes down to it, we're only here to serve. That's the primary function of our business.”

Be sure to support the West Salem community this holiday season by stopping by ACE Hardware’s 820 Wallace Rd NW location this December.
