The West Salem High School Education Foundation is looking for volunteers.
WSHSEF board members support the foundation’s work in fundraising, conducting meetings, and supporting the school’s booster clubs, which include Choir, Orchestra, Athletics, Academics, and the Grad Party. Each booster club also has volunteers who support fundraising and event planning.
The foundation is currently seeking applications for a board president and treasurer. The president is the organization’s main point of contact with the community and donors, and the treasurer will oversee the foundation’s checking account and tax filings, supported by an accountant.
The foundation also manages concessions at athletics events and they are currently looking for a Concessions Manager, who will receive a small stipend. The Concessions Manager will manage purchasing, stock, and staffing for the concessions booth during games.
The next board term begins July 1, and terms run for two years. The president and treasurer positions are currently held by West Salem High teachers, but that profession is not a requirement to join the board. Community members are encouraged to apply, even if they don’t have a student at West Salem High. Volunteers must pass a background check and be committed to improving the school community.
“The only requirement is a desire to be there and support West Salem High School,” Christy Beckstrom, the current board president of the West Salem High Education Foundation, said.
One of the foundation’s fundraising goals is for a new reader board to face either Doaks Ferry or Orchard Heights, to make announcements more easily visible.
