The Experience
Salem watercolor artist Elisa Mack leads this casual, small-group workshop designed for teens through adults who are curious about creativity and self-expression. It invites your inner child to come out and play, gives you space to process your emotions around perfectionism, or simply gives you time with your own creativity. With prompts for both writing and painting, the workshop will dive into how you feel about yourself, about creating art, and what stops you from expressing freely.
Blending artistic exploration with personal reflection, participants can expect:
· Step-by-step watercolor painting prompts with expert guidance
· Reflection and journaling prompts
· Time to personally explore with watercolors in a quiet environment
· All art supplies provided, including brushes, watercolor paper, and artist-grade paints
· A welcoming and relaxed atmosphere perfect for creativity and connection
About the Workshop
“Elisa provides everything,” says Destree Thompson, founder of Enlighten Healing Collective. Participants need only to show up “with an open mind and heart,” she says. At the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a completed artwork, matted and ready for framing.
Workshops are intentionally small and intimate, allowing Elisa to offer personalized guidance while maintaining a calm environment. “What is really beautiful about these sessions is the open space for people to come in and create,” Destree points out. “We are living in chaotic times, and people are looking for a place to retreat. Elisa creates such a loving, warm environment where people can let go of stress and simply play.”
A Salem native, Elisa has more than 15 years of watercolor experience. She is the owner and operator of Paint With Magenta, LLC. and hosts watercolor art classes in various locations throughout the Willamette Valley. Sharing the accessibility and beauty of watercolor is her passion.
Growing Community Connections
March 1 marks Enlighten Healing Collective’s Second Anniversary. Serving the West Salem community, the space continues to grow as a hub for healing arts and creative exploration. Working to create a community of like-minded healing professionals, new connections form and past ones become part of the Collective community.
Destree and Elisa actually met a couple of years ago when Elisa joined Destree’s very first Artist’s Way Workshop. “We created a connection there,” Destree relates. A year or so later, the two reconnected and explored the idea of Elisa sharing her gifts in the Collective space. Destree, in turn, attended Elisa’s first watercolor workshop at the Collective.
“In the last year, we've brought on Olivia Rudolph, who has just been wonderful. She’s our administrator and social media coordinator for context,” Destree remarks. “Olivia is a great creative mind and so organized. She's really become the face of our collective.”
Winter Zen Paint with Watercolor is part of an ongoing monthly series featuring new themes throughout the year. The Collective also offers a variety of experiences through their workshops, classes, and events led by local practitioners. From movement to mindfulness, creative expression to personal growth, these diverse themes are designed to nurture your body, mind, and spirit.
