September: A Season to Reset

September: A Season to Reset

By Destree Thompson, For The West Side Newspaper

September has a feeling to it.

The air changes. Mornings feel a little cooler. Leaves on the trees hint at the colors to come. Around our community, school buses return, calendars fill, and familiar routines begin to take shape again. It's a season that feels both like an inhale and an exhale, a letting go of summer's slower pace while preparing for what's ahead.

Transitions like these can be energizing, but they also ask something of us. Even welcome changes require adjustment, and it's common to feel a little more tired, distracted, or overwhelmed as we settle into a new rhythm. That doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. It simply means you're adapting.

What helps you feel steady? Maybe it's protecting your sleep, taking a walk after dinner, reconnecting with a friend, or leaving a little breathing room in your schedule. Small, consistent practices often do more for our well-being than dramatic overhauls.

Just as importantly, don't wait until you're overwhelmed to seek support. We often think of community as something we need only during life's biggest challenges, but connection also helps us navigate everyday transitions. A conversation, a class, a support group, or simply spending time with others can remind us that we don't have to carry every season alone.

Healing isn't reserved for times of crisis. It's something we cultivate through meaningful relationships, shared experiences, and small acts of caring for ourselves and one another. Creating spaces for that kind of connection is a core value at The Enlighten Healing Collective.

As we step into a new season, consider finding a place to connect. Whether that's through a conversation with a friend, a neighborhood gathering, or one of the workshops or groups at The Enlighten Healing Collective, you don't have to navigate this season alone.
