Book: I love to read but I usually don’t read a book more than once – the only one I can think of at the moment is the outsiders “Stay Golden, Ponyboy”

Hobbies: Escape rooms with friends and family, building lego, reading
If offered a dream vacation, where would you go, and why: I can’t decide, many years ago I was able to go to Ireland and it was amazing with all the history. So maybe somewhere in Europe. But I also would love to go to a tropical place for the serenity. I think I would probably travel anywhere in the world as long as my family could come with me.
Best lesson learned as a child: Never give up, you have to get up and keep trying. I think it is about curiosity and about the fact of never letting embarrassment hold you back.
Defining moment in your life or your greatest accomplishment: For me it was earning my MSN, I was working full-time night shift, I had a newborn at home and I spent two grueling years studying and doing clinicals. In the middle of my program I also lost my grandfather. Graduation unfortunately occurred during COVID restrictions and my university had us do a zoom graduation ceremony from our own living rooms. It was disappointing but at the same time a major memory, my daughter and family placing the hood over my head that I worked so hard for. Another is more recent : receiving a challenge coin from a student I taught and having them tell me that I was a major part of their success in becoming a nurse.
A memorable dinner: Most family events like the fourth of July with hot dogs and potato salad or thanksgiving with mashed potatoes and gravy. I feel like the people around the table make it memorable.
A funny moment from your life that you can share: I don’t know if this is a funny moment but it feels like a full circle moment. I went to West Salem High school and when I was a senior in high school I worked as an office assistant for a medical practice here in West Salem. Now, many years later, that medical practice has since closed but I was able to open my business in that same location. It really brings back memories.
If you could invite anyone (past or present) to dinner, who would it be, and why: My grandfather passed away in 2019, and I would love to have another moment with him. He is a huge part of the reason I became a medical professional. He suffered from polio as a child and lived with a great deal of pain, but he rarely complained and he always kept pushing forward. His motto was “ice cream fixes everything!” He was so proud the day I became a nurse, and he continued to encourage me to reach for my dreams even when he was in hospice. He gave love and acceptance to everyone he came in contact with, and I want to pass that on by treating my patients with care and listening to them so we can work together for healing.
Describe yourself in one word: Determined
When you're not reading The West Side News, what book/author/magazine/other do you read: Well, due to my job I read a ton of medical journal articles – I want to be up to date, but when I can I also read a fair amount of romantic comedy type books. I love a book that can make me laugh.
If your life were made into a play or movie, what would the title be: A Beautiful Mess Pet peeve: When people cut me off in traffic. If we all just followed the rules of the road, we would all be safer and get to our destinations faster.
Bad habit you’d like to break: I can’t think of one. I am sure I have a couple but at the moment can’t come up with one.
Famous person(s) you have met, and the circumstances: My daughter and I got to meet the band of Old Dominion. We went to a concert and on their last tour they had a couch on stage. The couch was from one of their album’s cover art where the band sat. So they would invite fans on stage during the concert. My daughter and a bunch of other kids got invited up and Trevor, one of the band members, gave her a fist bump. She still talks about that.
